Authentica Allows Document Control

Sharing documents with clients is often a necessary part of business, but sensitive information can be leaked to the outside world either accidentally or maliciously. Authentica Inc., maker of the PageVault encryption and document control software, is expanding its line to include e-mail and Web pages, creating a suite of document control utilities.

The Vault line of utilities employ 128 bit encryption to garble the content of sensitive documents across the net, then require an authentication step in order for a user to view a document. The sender sets privileges for the reader, whether he can read, write, or print a document.

"Our products are for users who need more than just security, we also bring control," according to Stevan Vigneaux, senior vice president of marketing.

In addition, each page is regarded as a discrete unit, so a user could send an entire excel file, but only allow the reader to see a graph page. "The granularity is at the page level," Vigneaux says.

Finally, privileges can be added or revoked at anytime, regardless of when the document was sent. "We bring post-delivery control," Stevan Vigneaux.

The Vault suite integrates with a variety of authentication systems, and can also be configured with a simple password system.
