Microsoft, Compaq Release Deployment Jumpstart for Windows 2000 Tool

Microsoft Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. today released a training tool the companies hope will inspire customers to begin deploying Windows 2000.

The kit, known as Deployment JumpStart for Windows 2000, is a hardware, software, and content multimedia training program that includes 50 one-hour technical seminars tailored toward companies preparing to deploy the new operating systems, as well as a deployment planning guide and the Windows road map for streaming media.

On the hardware side, customers can choose from one of three different Compaq ProLiant server configurations loaded and pre-configured with Windows 2000 Server, including Windows Media Services. Entry-level, midrange and high-end configurations are available.

The entry-level Proliant 800, serves more than 100 simultaneous user streams at 100Kbps. The Proliant 800 offers 9GB of storage and 128 MB of RAM.

One step up, the Proliant 1850R can handle more than 350 simultaneous streams at 100Kbps. This system carries 27GB of storage and 256 MB of RAM.

The top dog of the three choices, Compaq’s Proliant 1600R streams to more 600 simultaneous users at 100Kbps. The system includes 54GB of storage and 512 MB of RAM.

Customers purchase the solution, plug it into the network, and IT staff desktops then have access to the training sessions without mastering the technology or creating the content.

The Deployment JumpStart for Windows 2000 can be ordered as part of Compaq's Active Answers program. More information is available at http://vcmproapp02.compaq.com/catalog/jstartw2000.html.
