Interix Will Be Cerified Unix Environment for NT

Softway Systems Inc. (San Francisco,
www.interix.com) today announced that Interix will be the first product to achieve Unix branding on Microsoft Windows NT. Unix branding assures customers that Interix will fully support their Unix applications as they migrate from traditional Unix systems to Windows NT.
The announcement is the result of a long-term binding agreement that Softway Systems has entered into with The Open Group (Cambridge, Mass., www.opengroup.org), owners of the Unix trademark, to certify Interix as a fully compliant Unix product.
Interix supplies industry-standard Unix application programming interfaces and other interfaces, such as shells, daemons and other interoperability technology. "We are excited that Interix lets customers re-host their legacy Unix applications on the Windows NT platform," says Jim Allchin, senior vice president at Microsoft Corp.
"Customers need to re-capture their significant investment in enterprise software written for Unix systems," comments Doug Miller, CEO of Softway Systems. Final Unix certification will be based upon the current Interix 2.2 release. Therefore, customers can immediately begin to re-host their Unix applications on Windows NT. Final branding will include a certified hardware platform, which will be announced in the next 45 days.
