With the release of SQL Server 2008 this year, Microsoft added features to nearly every functional area of its flagship database and opened up entirely new categories of capabilities. SQL Server 2008 brings integrated business intelligence, new support for spatial and location-based data and new management and visualization tools among scores of new features.
About the only thing that didn't get bigger in the 2008 version was the price tag -- Microsoft is maintaining its cost competitiveness over certain other enterprise databases. Some of the major improvements make an upgrade a no-brainer for customers.
In this editorial special report, Redmond Channel Partner magazine lays out the new business opportunities for partners in the 2008 release of SQL Server. This report also explores the opportunities for partners to sell hardware with new SQL Server implementations and mines the opportunities for software cross-sales by mapping the relationships between SQL Server and several other Microsoft products.
