Name: Scott Paul
Title: Director of Strategic Accounts at AppRiver

RCP: What's the elevator pitch for your company to a Microsoft partner?
Paul: AppRiver has enjoyed a long-standing, successful relationship with Microsoft and was honored to be among the first Microsoft Office 365 syndicated partners to bring the suite to market.

Since 2002, the company has offered cloud-based security services that are available on a subscription basis and offered at a fraction of the cost of managing the same services in-house. All AppRiver customers receive 24/7 U.S.-based Phenomenal Care, complimentary migration, and access to innovative and easy-to-use control panels. For the SMB market, AppRiver's world-class customer support takes away the uncertainty and complexity involved with moving to the cloud.

For partners who may not have thought about your company since the last WPC, what would they need to know about what you've been up to for the past 12 months?
As a syndication partner, AppRiver successfully introduced the new Office 365 suite to its corporate customers at launch and continues to bring the solution to market.

The addition of Office 365 plans to its suite of hosted services has allowed AppRiver to better serve the needs of business clients around the globe by offering customers more choices, enhanced functionality and greater overall value largely by backing its services with a level of customer support that is unmatched in the space.

AppRiver is in the business of solving problems for business, especially the small and mid-sized companies for whom we act as trusted advisors. Our commitment to Phenomenal Care means that we only recommend solutions that are appropriate for the customers' unique needs. Based on the 95-percent trial conversion rate, it's clear that Microsoft Office 365 has been living up to its promise -- and AppRiver is on track to meet or exceed our best-case projections.

Out of your entire product portfolio, what's the product or service that Microsoft partners should be aware of right now?
AppRiver utilizes Microsoft technology to make it convenient and cost-effective for businesses to use the power of the cloud to improve productivity and profitability. And we do our best to ensure a positive customer experience from first contact to post-op support. This unique customer-centric philosophy is AppRiver's competitive edge in the marketplace.

Since its inception, AppRiver has sustained an impressive 93 percent customer retention rate while growing its customer base to more than 45,000 companies and over eight million mailboxes worldwide, making it one of the largest e-mail and Web security service providers in the world. One reason for our success is because customer service is more than an extension of our secure messaging solutions. Instead, we treat Phenomenal Care as a product in and of itself.

Are you announcing anything at WPC?
No, but please feel free to join two of our senior executives during the show who will be presenting key tips on how AppRiver successfully leverages Microsoft technologies to bring value to our global customer base.

What should Microsoft partners keep an eye out for from your company over the next year?
Over the coming year, AppRiver will be integrating its Office 365 offering into our customer portal. We'll also be offering bundled services around Office 365 and our Hosted Exchange e-mail services, presenting customers with a compliant mailbox that includes spam and virus filtering, Web protection, e-mail encryption and archiving services.

Partners and potential partners in the EMEA market should be aware that AppRiver has now opened a new European headquarters near Zurich to better serve our customers in those regions.

Why should someone visit your booth this year (free stuff, amazing demo, contest, promotion, etc.)?
Visitors to Booth M7 will learn how to make Exchange Online more secure with some exciting new technology from AppRiver. Live demos of AppRiver's Microsoft Office 365 suite of hosted services will be available as well.

As a company, what are your goals for WPC this year?
Our goal is to connect with partners who want to help their SMB customers with issues like security and compliance. We also want to hear from experts at Microsoft and other partners about new product and service ideas, as well as new ways to provide existing ones.We are especially excited to introduce our new e-mail encryption service that provides patented delivery slip notification to let customers know who has opened their e-mails and control who may forward or print, etc.

What's the profile of the ideal partner you're hoping to connect with at WPC this year?
AppRiver's ideal partner serves as a trusted advisor to one or more customers and who wants to make sure they have the best information security available. We also want partners who share our commitment to Phenomenal Care, the high-touch customer service for which AppRiver has established a strong reputation in the marketplace.
